What I value most in visual book publishing is the collaboration among authors, artists, designers, and production teams to create projects that excite and move people. This studio is the space where these creative processes are performed anew. I will be packaging books but also consulting with authors, artists, and photographers on projects. Eventually we will be expanding into events, exhibitions, and other creative activities. Please don’t hesitate to contact me.

David Maisel’s Black Maps: American Landscape and the Apocalyptic Sublime opens at the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art on June 1.

Two books that ARstudio consulted on—Cig Harvey’s You Look at Me Like an Emergency and Chris Buck’s Presence—have been selected as notable books of 2012 by Photo District News.

Chris Buck is signing his contrarian celebrity portrait book Presence, published by Kehrer Verlag, at the ICP Store on Thursday, October 4 starting at 6 pm.

I’m happy to announce that Chris Buck’s counterintuitive celebrity portrait book Presence is being released by Kehrer Verlag.

ARstudio is delighted to announce the publication of Cig Harvey’s You Look At Me Like An Emergency from Schilt Publishing. Cig also created a wonderful video preview for the book.

I worked with the Cultural Programs division of the National Academy of Sciences to produce the first survey of their diverse and growing art holdings: Convergence: The Art Collection of the National Academy of Sciences. You can purchase it via the Academy’s site here.

My SVA i3 lecture—and numerous other ones by great photographers, curators, and publishers—can be viewed via iTunes.

I will be presenting a lecture about the process of concepting photographic work into book form, as well as the nuts-and-bolts of executing a formidable book proposal, at SVA’s Digital Photography MPS lecture series. Dubbed i3 (Ideas Images Inspiration), I’m honored to follow Elinor Carucci and Ruben Natal-San Miguel; Jaime Permuth is the curator of the series. I hope to see you there: 7 pm at SVA, 136 W. 21 St. Room 418F. Free and open to the public.

Within Shadows has been awarded Gold in the Pro Fine Art Books category at the 2011 PX3 Prix De La Photographie Paris.

Susan Burnstine’s Within Shadows has been published by Charta.

I attended Book Expo America 2010 on May 25–27 and caught up with numerous publishing colleagues. Even outside of BEA it is possible to make an appointment with me.

David Maisel and I will be teaching a photography book workshop at the Center for Photography at Woodstock in September 2010. You can find out more information here.
